When you log onto this website of the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages you will see they are responsible not only for for the modern documents, but those in the past.
On the left hand side of the website Home Page you will see a list of options .Click on 'Family History' .
In the drop down menu click on 'Search Historical Indexes'.
The page then opens in which you are offered options for Experienced Users and Step-by-Step Guide- for first time users. If you have not used this site before please read the Step-by-Step Guide. It covers an overview of the site, how to use the Historical Indexes and how to acquire the necessary historical certificates or transcriptions.
Please note there is a difference between these two documents, not the least of which is cost. A historical certificate is purchased directly from the Registrar's Office and is usually produced from a digital copy of the original certificate at a certain cost. You also have the option to obtain a full or part transcription of the certificate through a private transcription agent. There are at present three licensed for the NSW Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages. Their particulars are on the website with a link to their own websites giving details of services and current associated costs.
